The Virginia Cavaliers came back from an early deficit, beating the Vanderbilt Commodores 4-2 in game 3 of the CWS, clinching their first national championship. Virginia's Brandon Waddell allowed two first-inning runs, but then settled in to pitch seven innings, only allowing four hits which gave the Cavaliers' offense the chance to make a come back. Virginia was able to make three hits in the final eight innings. Pavin Smith evened things up with a two-run homer in the fourth, and then later hit the game-ending RBI on a single in the fifth inning.
