South Carolina won their first ever national championship in any men's sport for their school in the 2010 College World Series by beating top seeded UCLA 2-1 in the second game of a best of three series. A crucial error by UCLA allowed the Gamecocks to even the score 1-1 in the 8th. The game ended up in extra innings, a first for a CWS final game since 1970. Whit Merrifield's 11th-inning RBI sealed South Carolina's fate, and it was also the first walk-off to decide a championship since 2000. Jackie Bradley Jr. won the Most Outstanding Player for this CWS.
