Miami vs Notre Dame
Oct 15, 1988
Miami decided to go for 2 and the win instead of taking an extra point to tie the game 31-31 with 45 seconds remaining. The result was one of the more iconic defensive plays in Notre Dame football history, with Fighting Irish defender Pat Terrell batting down Steve Walsh's pass. Notre Dame won 31-30 and snapped Miami's 36 game regular season win streak. This game was also called the 'Catholics vs Convicts' game, a T-shirt slogan made up by two Notre Dame students that stuck.

Notre Dame vs Houston
Jan 2, 1979
Notre Dame's quarterback Joe Montana overcame the flu, extremely frigid weather and a 21-point 3rd quarter deficit to elevate his team to a highly unlikely 35-34 comeback win against Houston in the 1979 Cotton Bowl Classic in Dallas TX. Montana famously ate chicken soup during halftime to battle his flu symptoms which gave him enough energy to finish out the game. Thus this match up is known as the 'Chicken Soup Game'.
